Before the shoot

What is the best age for a newborn photo shoot?

I love photographing new babies of all ages and have no strict time-frame on your baby's age. If you're eager to preserve that fresh 'newborn look', aim for a session within 5-14 days after your due date. At this tender age, your baby will likely spend most of the session snoozing (and feeding), making it the perfect opportunity to relive those intimate moments.

Or, if you're not quite ready to put your baby's first few weeks into a frame just yet, that's okay too! As your little one grows and becomes more alert, we'll capture their unique personality, playful moments, and special milestones. Whatever stage your baby is in, my promise is to create a treasure trove of beautiful, meaningful memories that will warm your heart for years to come.

What areas do you cover?

As a local photographer, I'm delighted to serve the beautiful Cheshire region and beyond! Whether you're based in North Wales, Wirral, or within the surrounding areas, I'm happy to travel to your chosen photo shoot location.

To make things easy, my standard coverage includes locations within 25 miles of CH1. If your chosen location falls outside this radius, don't worry - I'll simply add a small additional fee of 0.45p per mile. This way, you can focus on enjoying the experience without worrying about logistics.

When should I book?

As soon as you know you're ready to capture your family's special moments, I'd love to hear from you!
To ensure I can provide the highest level of personalised service and attention to detail, I limit the number of sessions I take on each month. As a result, I tend to book up quickly - usually 6-8 weeks in advance.

For newborn sessions, I recommend booking your appointment after your 20-week scan, while for maternity sessions, it's best to book when you're between 30-36 weeks pregnant.

I'd like to book an in-home session but our house is really small!

Don't worry if your home doesn't have a perfectly curated magazine look! I've been photographing families in all sorts of spaces - from cosy apartments to spacious homes, and everything in between. Over the years, I've learned that beauty is not just about the decor, but about the love and laughter that fills a space. Your home is where your family's most precious memories are made, and it's the perfect place for our photo shoot. I believe that every home has its own unique charm, and I'm excited to capture the beauty and light that shines within your walls. So, don't stress about the decor - let's focus on celebrating the people and moments that make your home truly special.

Do I need a spotless house for the in-home photo shoot?

No need for any major spring cleaning, a little tidying up will be absolutely enough. Try and clear things from your bedroom and living areas that could cause distraction in the photographs, or that could look out of place e.g. clutter from your bedside tables or kitchen surfaces. Please also try and hide or put away any plug cables.

During the shoot

How can we prepare for the photo shoot?

One of the most important secrets to a successful photo shoot is to simply relax and go with the flow - embrace the chaos of life with young children and enjoy the precious time with your family. You can leave the rest to me.

My family storytelling sessions are all about capturing the whimsy and wonder of childhood, as well as the unique quirks and traditions that make your family's story so special.I encourage you to let your hair down and be your child's biggest goofball - after all, you know exactly what makes them giggle and smile! Whether it's singing silly songs, busting out some dad jokes, or striking a pose (or three), don't be afraid to get a little ridiculous. And trust me, I've found that a relaxed attitude and a willingness to have fun can work wonders, far outperforming any old bribe!

What do I need to wear?

The clothing you choose can significantly affect the outcome of your photography session. To help you prepare, I'll be sending a 'What to Wear Guide' that outlines a colour palette and provides general style suggestions. I recommend avoiding prints and patterns, as well as logos, and keeping accessories to a minimum. While comfort is still a priority, my guide will provide guidance on how to prepare for your session.

I also have an ever-growing client female and newborn (0-4 moths) wardrobe available. I have a selection of lovely dresses in all sizes between 8-16. All dresses have a fluttering and stretchy fit to them so should fit most figures but if I don't have one in your size and you would like to take advantage of the client wardrobe, please do let me know and we can see what we can do.

How long will the shoot last?

My standard outdoor photo shoots usually take anything between 1-2 hours, but you won't find me clock watching and I will only finish when I have fully captured everything we set out to.

For the in-home newborn sessions, please allow at least 2 hours, I always include time for bottle/breast-feeding and comforting for younger babies, and snacks and a rest from the camera for older toddlers and children.

Do you reschedule photo sessions for sickness or bad weather?

Absolutely! Living in the UK and dealing with unpredictable weather is just part of the package. If it's pouring outside or if you or a family member is under the weather and can't make it to the shoot, we'll definitely reschedule the session. I am happy to offer one re-schedule free of charge due to illness. Please note that further re-schedules are subject to a re-booking fee (50% of the original session fee).

After the shoot

How do we choose our photographs?

Approximately 2-3 weeks after the shoot I will send you a link to a private online gallery with 30+ hand-edited, watermarked photographs. The link will be live for two weeks for you to have enough time to choose the photos you'd like to keep and the right package for your needs. Please see available packages above.

Will the photographs be in colour and black & white?

The photographs in your gallery will be a mix of colour and black and white depending on what works best for each particular shot.

How long will it take to receive my order?

Digital files can be provided within 24 hours of receiving payment, prints may take up to two weeks.

Do you offer re-touching?

I know that life can be messy, and sometimes that messiness shows up in our photos! Don't worry, I've got you covered. As a mother myself, I understand the importance of preserving the authenticity of childhood moments. That's why I'll carefully retouch your selected photos to gently remove any unwanted dirt, smudges, or other imperfections. Unless you have a specific request, I'll leave everything else just as it is - natural, imperfect, and beautiful. Please note that additional retouching services may be available at an extra cost, but I'll always work with you to ensure we're on the same page.
